A Hidden Gem in Scotland

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all keeping well, today I’m going to let you know of an area that I knew very little about, it is Dumfries and Galloway, which to me is a hidden gem. The reason I call it this is because when everybody talks about Scotland they think of the usual routes to the Highlands, from Edinburgh to Fort William, Skye, Inverness and back to Edinburgh, and to be honest I have been guilty of this as well, most independent Scottish tour operators normally follow the kind of routes that I described.

I have to say that it has got me thinking about maybe introducing a few new tours focused on Dumfries and Galloway in Southern Scotland.

Things to see and do in the area, you could visit Drumlanrig Castle dating back to the 17th century and also used as a filming location of the very popular series Outlander, one place you shouldn’t miss is the very picturesque harbour town of Portpatrick with its relaxing laid back feel to it.

Dumfries and Galloway has some beautiful beaches along with some dramatic and stunning coastlines.
I was very lucky to stumble across a stunning little church in the middle of nowhere called Kirkmadrine and an added bonus was getting to see the ancient christian stones dating back to 500AD.

From stone circles to castles and stunning gardens and of course don’t forget the dark sky park known as Galloway Forest Park, great for stargazing.

Check out a little video I have done on my You Tube channel, just type in Purple Heather Scottish Tours You Tube channel and click on Dumfries and Galloway you may also like to check out the Visit Scotland site for more information on visiting this Hidden Gem of an area.

Keep a look out on the website as new tours maybe appearing for the 2023 season
